Oil Painting: Concepts of Composition

Tuesdays 7-10pm
This course will focus on the various ways composition affects the mood and emotions of paintings. Students will create preparatory sketches in graphite pencil to scale in relationship to the size desired for their finished paintings. Subject matter will be the student’s choice and rendered realistically but each subject will be explored in different ways, always using the same pictorial elements. The teacher will demonstrate how changes in dimensions of the objects, light and point of view create different emotional effects for the viewer. Students will then choose which sketches they will transfer to their painting surface and create a monochromatic painting.
